Basketball Recap: Paxx Adams Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Wilber-Clatonia

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Southern ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines 54-52. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Raiders also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Southern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Paxx Adams led the charge by going 8 for 13 on his way to 18 points. Cooper Warford was another key player, putting up 21 points and five rebounds.

Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aiden Zajicek, who posted 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Graysen Vlcan, who had eight points along with seven boards and five assists.

Southern's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6. As for Wilber-Clatonia, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season.

Southern will square off against Johnson County Central at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season. As for Wilber-Clatonia, they will welcome Thayer Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
