Baseball Game Preview: Tomball Kings Homeschool vs. Covenant Christian Cougars

Tomball Kings is a perfect 4-0 against Covenant Christian since March of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. Tomball Kings will challenge Covenant Christian at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tomball Kings has four straight victories, Covenant Christian has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Tomball Kings proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-12 win over Cooper. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Homeschool have posted since February 21st.

Asher Chapa made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Tomball Kings is undefeated when Chapa posts two or more runs, but 6-12-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Tomball Kings let Avery Bell and Owen Wilkins run wild. Bell went 1-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Wilkins scored a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Wilkins a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Jonah Irvine, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Tomball Kings kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Covenant Christian challenged Aggieland HomeSchool on Friday. Covenant Christian fell just short of Aggieland HomeSchool by a score of 4-3.

The win got Tomball Kings back to even at 12-12-1. As for Covenant Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.

Tomball Kings took their victory against Covenant Christian in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-2. Does Tomball Kings have another victory up their sleeve, or will Covenant Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
