Softball Recap: St. Helens Takes Down Ranked Astoria

St. Helens faced Astoria in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Lions skirted past the Fishermen 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Lions: when they faced off against the Fishermen on Friday, they had to take a 9-7 defeat.

Eme Curaming spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Madelyn Hancock, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

St. Helens has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Astoria, their loss dropped their record down to 18-6.

Coming up, St. Helens will welcome Tillamook at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Astoria, they will head out to challenge Dayton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
