Volleyball Recap: Cabrillo Conquistadores vs. Nipomo Titans
Cabrillo lost against Nipomo on March 4th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Cabrillo came up short against Nipomo, falling 3-0. The Conquistadores have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cabrillo took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-15, 25-16, 25-17.
Matias Salguero paced Cabrillo's offense, picking up 11 kills. Salguero got some help from Cody Lawton and his 27 assists. Lawton was also solid from the service line: he led the team with two aces.
Nipomo was led to victory by Luke Campbell and Alex Cortez. Campbell had seven digs and three aces, while Cortez hit 82.4% for 14 kills and nine digs, two blocks, and two aces. Those 82.4% hitting percentage gave Cortez a new career-high.
The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 7-6. As for Nipomo, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.
Cabrillo has already played their next game, a 3-1 victory against Mission College Prep on the 25th. As for Nipomo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Arroyo Grande on the 21st.
