Basketball Recap: Calvin Peterson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Roosevelt over Minneapolis South

After flying high against Community of Peace Academy last Wednesday, Roosevelt came back down to earth. The Roosevelt Teddies fell 81-73 to the Minneapolis South Tigers on Wednesday. The Teddies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 79-70.

Several Teddies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Calvin Peterson, who posted 25 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Peterson's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Obie E Esparza, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Roosevelt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Roosevelt's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Minneapolis South, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-13 record this season.

Roosevelt wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-53 victory against Avail Academy on the 14th. As for Minneapolis South, they will head out on the road to square off against Highland Park at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
