Baseball Game Preview: Clairton Bears vs. Serra Catholic Eagles

The Clairton Bears will face off against the Serra Catholic Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Clairton is looking for their season's first win.

Clairton came up short against Eden Christian Academy back in March, falling 13-1.

Clairton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adonte Wiggins, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. Wiggins has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Meanwhile, Serra Catholic made easy work of Western Beaver on Friday and carried off a 10-1 victory. Considering the Eagles have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Tyler Skaggs made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Skaggs was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Black, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jake Holmes was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Serra Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Serra Catholic's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Clairton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
