Chipley is 1-9 against Holmes County since April of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Tigers will challenge the Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Chipley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Sunday. They had just enough and edged out Northview 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since April 2nd.

Ty Gray made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, John Helms was excellent, going 3-for-5 with four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brantley Kirkland, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Holmes County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Royals 4-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Holmes County also got a great performance from Kopper Nelson as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Nelson also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Blue Devils are 5-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 9-13 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Holmes County let Landen Gammons and Charlie Womble run wild. Gammons went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI, while Womble got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Those doubles marked the first that Gammons has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhett Boyd, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
The win got Holmes County back to even at 14-14. As for Chipley, their victory bumped their record up to 17-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Chipley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Holmes County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Chipley couldn't quite finish off Holmes County in their previous meeting back in April and fell 6-4. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
