Softball Game Preview: Orcutt Academy Spartans vs. Atascadero Greyhounds

The Orcutt Academy Spartans will take on the Atascadero Greyhounds at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Orcutt Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Atascadero will be coming in after a defeat.

If Orcutt Academy beats Atascadero with eight runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Spartans put the hurt on San Luis Obispo with a sharp 8-1 win on Saturday. That looming 8-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Spartans yet this season.

Meanwhile, Atascadero scored the most runs they've had this season on Thursday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of Paso Robles by a score of 12-10. The Greyhounds haven't had much luck with the Bearcats recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Brooklyn Martin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Eden Blais, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Orcutt Academy and bumps their season record up to 4-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Atascadero, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Everything went Orcutt Academy's way against Atascadero when the teams last played back in March, as Orcutt Academy made off with an 8-2 victory. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Greyhounds have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
