Softball Recap: San Ysidro Find Success

San Ysidro posted their closest victory since February 28th on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Southwest SD Raiders 18-17. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won seven in a row.

The team relied heavily on Lizette Herrera, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mary Ellen Valenzuela, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

San Ysidro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .343 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

San Ysidro's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Southwest SD, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7 record this season.

San Ysidro will square off against Castle Park at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Southwest SD, they will challenge Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
