Baseball Game Preview: Weston Ranch Cougars vs. Franklin Yellowjackets

Weston Ranch and Franklin are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Weston Ranch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

If Weston Ranch beats Franklin with 12 runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Cougars came out on top against Chavez by a score of 12-7 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won six in a row.

The team relied heavily on Jonathan Newsome, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Xavier Ealy was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Franklin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Bear Creek, falling 11-0. The shutout was out of character for the Yellowjackets seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.

Franklin's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Weston Ranch, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Weston Ranch couldn't quite get it done against Franklin when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
