Basketball Recap: Maryville Christian Comes Up Short

Maryville Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 37-31 heartbreaker at the hands of the Carlinville Cavaliers.

Despite the defeat, Maryville Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Nate Laughlin posted 13 points. Nolan Hite also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carlinville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tate Duckels, who earned 11 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Carlinville is undefeated when Duckels posts three or more steals, but 4-15 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Dominic Alepra, who had 12 points and three steals.

Maryville Christian's loss dropped their record down to 7-18. As for Carlinville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-15 record this season.

Maryville Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 38-35 defeat against Father McGivney Catholic on the 14th. As for Carlinville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-49 loss against Southwestern on the 14th.
