Basketball Recap: Mississinewa Takes a Loss

Mississinewa suffered their closest loss since February 9th on Friday. They fell just short of the Oak Hill Golden Eagles by a score of 40-38. The Indians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Mississinewa lost, don't look at Kiontaye Woods. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Woods a new career-high in rebounds. Rayveon Fetz was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Mississinewa was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Hill only posted five assists.

Leading Oak Hill to victory were Jace Tonagel and RJ Shugart. Tonagel posted 22 points along with eight boards and six steals, while Shugart had 15 points. Tonagel is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 18 every time he's taken the court this season.

This is the second loss in a row for Mississinewa and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Oak Hill, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Mississinewa will host Madison-Grant at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Madison-Grant will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Mississinewa surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oak Hill, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-68 win against Maconaquah on the 14th.
