Baseball Recap: Port Allen Has No Trouble Against Liberty Magnet

Port Allen hadn't done well against Liberty Magnet recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Everything went the Port Allen Pelicans' way against the Liberty Magnet Patriots as the Port Allen Pelicans made off with an 11-1 win. Considering the Pelicans have won five contests by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Hunter Bodin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Bodin was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. Port Allen is undefeated when Bodin posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Port Allen got a massive performance out of Johnny Payne, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Payne has become a key player for Port Allen: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. James Fontenot was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.

Port Allen hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Port Allen's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.33 hits in those games compared to only 4.8 in the others. As for Liberty Magnet, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Port Allen will venture away from home to take on East Iberville at 3:35 p.m. on Wednesday. Port Allen's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so East Iberville's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Liberty Magnet, they are taking a road trip to face off against Slaughter Community Charter at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
