Basketball Recap: Toby Sheehan's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Star over Conemaugh Township

North Star was the 52-45 winner over Conemaugh Township when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The North Star Cougars took a 43-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Conemaugh Township Indians. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

North Star's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Toby Sheehan, who posted eight points in addition to nine boards and three blocks. Sheehan is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last four games he's played. Andy Retassie was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Even though they lost, North Star smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive contests.

Conemaugh Township's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ethan Matera led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was Colin Dinyar, who scored 18 points and seven rebounds.

North Star's loss dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Conemaugh Township, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Coming up, North Star is taking a road trip to face off against Bishop Carroll at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Conemaugh Township, they will welcome Windber at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
