The Herriman Mustangs will face off against the West Field Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Herriman is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
Herriman will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Bingham, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Mustangs blew past the Miners 19-7 two weeks ago. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the game before.
Sierra Prescott looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Herriman got a massive performance out of Kinlee McDermaid, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI McDermaid has posted since back in March of 2024. Sammy Nelson was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Herriman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, West Field earned a 9-5 win over Sky View on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.
Ella Doxey was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Another player making a difference was Addi Gibson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one double.
West Field pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Herriman, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Herriman has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like West Field struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
