Baseball Recap: Trinidad Comes Up Short

Trinidad had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 0-4 to make it seven. They came up short against the La Veta Redhawks, falling 15-7. The Miners were not able to make up for their loss to the Redhawks from their previous meeting back in March of 2025.

As for La Veta, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-9. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

For La Veta's part, the team relied heavily on Joaquin Gallegos, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Gallegos has become a key player for the Redhawks: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tayten Medina, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinidad will square off against Monte Vista at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Veta, they will take on Custer County at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Redhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
