Softball Game Preview: Wharton Wildcats vs. Alonso Ravens

The Wharton Wildcats will head out to square off against the Alonso Ravens at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Wharton earned a 5-1 win over Chamberlain. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Storm recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Alonso hadn't beaten Sickles on the road since February 24, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Ravens put the hurt on the Gryphons with a sharp 12-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Ravens, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Karina Lozada was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Gunnin, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Emily Araujo was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Alonso hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Wharton's record is now 8-9. As for Alonso, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
