Baseball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Comes Up Short

Cardinal Gibbons easily dispatched Taravella on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs fell just short of the West Broward Bobcats by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday. The Chiefs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bobcats from their previous meeting back in March of 2023.

Mike Ragusa was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.

At the plate, Eddie Marshall made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Randy Petron, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Cardinal Gibbons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.

Cardinal Gibbons' loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for West Broward, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-3 record this season.

Cardinal Gibbons will host Saint Andrew's at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Broward, they are taking a road trip to square off against True North Classical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games West Broward has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
