Three weeks into the 2016 Utah high school football season, several running backs are on track to gain 1,000 or more yards before the regular season is finished. A few of those backs are even poised to make a serious run at eclipsing the 2,000 yard plateau.

Ben Lomond senior Angelo Rios and East senior Jaylen Warren both have favorable odds to rush for at least 2,000 yards this season if they can stay healthy and maintain their current production levels. Rios is averaging 223.3 yards per game and 11.4 yards per carry for the Scots. Warren, is churning out 213.7 yards per game and 14.2 yards per carry for the defending Class 4A champion Leopards.

A couple of other backs still have an outside shot at 2,000 yards – based on current production levels – if their teams reach the playoffs and play multiple games. Alta senior Josh Davis has totaled 178.7 yards per game and 10.5 yards per carry for the Hawks through three games. Tooele senior Lincoln Powers is averaging 187.7 yards per game and 10.4 yards per carry for the Buffaloes.

If Davis eclipses the 2,000 yard plateau it will mark the second consecutive season he has accomplished this feat. Davis totaled 2,077 yards and 26 touchdowns a year ago while averaging 7.9 yards per carry for Alta.
