Softball Recap: Highlands Drops Season-High Score on Boyle County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Highlands). They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Boyle County Rebels on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Bluebirds as they're now sitting on three straight.

Kaitlyn Dixon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Highlands got a massive performance out of Cam Markus, who scored four runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Markus a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Payton Brown, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Highlands kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

Highlands' record is now 10-5-1. As for Boyle County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Coming up, Highlands will square off against Pendleton County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Boyle County, they will take on Harrison County at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
