Baseball Game Preview: Gilroy Mustangs vs. Oak Grove Eagles

For the second straight game, Gilroy will face off against Oak Grove. Gilroy is taking a road trip to take on Oak Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Gilroy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Oak Grove, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Gilroy never let Oak Grove get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory on Tuesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Not much got past Jared Nelson, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep Oak Grove off the board. Nelson also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Gilroy is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Brennan Neander was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases. He has become a key player for Gilroy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Evan Passama also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Oak Grove has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season. Gilroy's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-6.
