Baseball Recap: Houston Hawks vs. Homer Mariners
Houston extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-9 in the process. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Homer Mariners. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mariners apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Houston saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Eythan Cornell, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI. Aidan McDonnell also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
As for Homer, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.
On Homer's side, Clyde Clemens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Preston Stanislaw was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of CJ Burns, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
As of now, neither Houston nor Homer have any future games scheduled.
