Baseball Game Preview: Madison Trojans vs. Onsted Wildcats

Madison hasn't had much luck against Onsted recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Trojans will host the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Madison 3, Onsted 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Onsted will be up against a hot Madison squad: the team just extended their winning streak to four. The Trojans beat Jonesville on Saturday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 16-5. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Brian Dopp made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dopp was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Norman Frederick, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Landon Mohr was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Madison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Onsted beat Charlotte 4-1 on Saturday.

Madison pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.3 runs this season. As for Onsted, their win bumped their record up to 3-1-1.

Madison came up short against Onsted in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 8-5. Can the Trojans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
