Softball Game Preview: Charlotte Latin Hawks vs. Providence Day Chargers

Charlotte Latin is 0-10 against Providence Day since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Hawks will head out to take on the Chargers at 4:30 p.m. Charlotte Latin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.5 runs per game this season.

Charlotte Latin gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Charlotte Christian. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by eight runs or more this season.

Sydney Thune made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lila McConnell, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI. Irie King was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Charlotte Latin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Providence Day fell victim to Charlotte Christian and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 8-0 to the Knights. The match marked the first time this year in which the Chargers were not able to get on the board.

This is the second loss in a row for Providence Day and nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Charlotte Latin, their record now sits at 10-2.

Charlotte Latin couldn't quite get it done against Providence Day when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
