Basketball Recap: Sparta Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Cecilia Hemmersbach and Elexa Jones

Sparta lost against Holmen back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Sparta Spartans lost to the Holmen Vikings on the road by a 68-50 margin. The Spartans were down 38-18 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Sparta's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Elexa Jones, who posted 12 points and six rebounds, and Cecilia Hemmersbach, who had seven points. Hemmersbach continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Izzy Mickelson, who earned four points.

Sparta's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Holmen, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10.

Coming up, Sparta will head out on the road to square off against Tomah at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Holmen, they will be playing at home against La Crosse Central at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday.
