Football Recap: Gilbert Christian Piles Up the Points Against Apache Junction

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gilbert Christian). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 53-14 win over the Apache Junction Prospectors. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by 23 points or more this season.

Gilbert Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kamari Stanbury, who picked up 45 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in one rushing score. Pierson Scott made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Stanbury, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Gilbert Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. It was a group effort, with five picking up one apiece. Hyatt Lang got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

With the win, Gilbert Christian broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-3. As for Apache Junction, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Gilbert Christian will head out on the road to challenge Payson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Longhorns' defense has only allowed 15 points per game this season, so the Knights' offense will have their work cut out for them. Apache Junction does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
