Football Recap: Sunnyvale Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Sunnyvale extended their home winning streak to eight games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Cayson Maupin. Sunnyvale took down the Van Vandals 42-28 on Friday for which the team can thank Maupin, who rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 302 yards and three TDs while completing 85% of his passes. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 102.2 rushing yards per game.

Another player making a difference was Aydin Brown, who gained 116 total yards and three touchdowns. He also punched in a rushing touchdown, marking his first of the season.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Sunnyvale's defense and their five sacks. Leading the way was Stephan Wilson with two. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine. Sunnyvale got some further help from Drew Gardner: he made 16 total tackles and snagged an interception.

Sunnyvale's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Van, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sunnyvale will challenge Pleasant Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks' defense has only allowed 8.5 points per game this season, so Sunnyvale's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Van, they will face off against Brownsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Vandals will be up against the Bears' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
