Preview: McQueen Lancers vs. Hug Hawks
McQueen is 10-0 against Hug since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The McQueen Lancers will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Hug Hawks at 11:30 a.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
McQueen struggled with assists on Thursday (Bishop Manogue had 24 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. McQueen took a serious blow against Bishop Manogue, falling 64-10. McQueen has struggled against Bishop Manogue recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
McQueen got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Camilla Carlson and
Audrey Baumgardner, who each put up three points.
Jaleigh Fred held things down on the boards with seven rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with an assist.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Hug, who are still winless after their sixth game. Their tough 57-34 defeat to Dayton last Saturday might stick with them for a while. The match was a close 22-20 at the break, but unfortunately for Hug it sure didn't stay that way.
The losing side was boosted by Karen Salgado, who scored 14 points. Precious Palaita was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
McQueen's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Hug, they bumped their record down to 0-6 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
McQueen strolled past Hug in their previous matchup back in February of 2020 by a score of 64-49. Will McQueen repeat their success, or does Hug have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
