Basketball Game Preview: Mount Vernon Mustangs vs. Walker Wolverines

The Mount Vernon Mustangs will square off against the Walker Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Mount Vernon knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Walker likes a good challenge.

On Monday, Mount Vernon earned a 78-66 victory over Mount Paran Christian. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Eagles are ranked 191st) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Walker's strategy against St. Francis on Monday. The Wolverines strolled past the Knights with points to spare, taking the game 75-58. The win continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won five in a row.

Walker's win came from a few key players that Mount Vernon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was King Daniel Hernandez, who went 8-for-15 on his way to 19 points along with six boards and five assists. His big performance that evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Anderson Carey was another key player, shooting 56% from the field to rack up 15 points and five rebounds.

Mount Vernon's record now sits at 23-3. As for Walker, their record is now 22-4.

Mount Vernon skirted past Walker 63-60 in their previous meeting back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
