Football Recap: Spencer Perry Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Glenpool

Poteau won the last time they faced Glenpool and things went their way on Friday too. The Pirates came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 28-17. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Warriors are ranked 155th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Poteau to victory, but perhaps none more so than Spencer Perry, who rushed for 158 yards. The Pirates also got help from Jacob Gutierrez, who showed off his sure hands for 93 receiving yards.

Poteau's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.7 points over those games. As for Glenpool, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Poteau will take on McLain Science & Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates will be up against the Titans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 28.33 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Glenpool, they will square off against Sallisaw at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors will need to watch out since the Black Diamonds have now posted at least 31 points in their last four contests.
