Jason Lajara was his usual excellent self, throwing for 201 yards and four touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punching in one TD on the ground. His passing game has become a key predictor of Brick Memorial's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. The Mustangs also got a significant boost from Nazeer Whittaker, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 105 yards.
Brick Memorial's run defense was locked in: Brick Township could only muster 3.2 yards per carry. While six picked up at least six total tackles, Jaxon Pacheco stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made six total tackles. Brick Memorial didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged eight.
Brick Memorial didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jack Marotta, Joe Livio, and Mike Pappas Jr. picked up one apiece. Pappas Jr. is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Southern Regional strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Manchester Township get on the board and left with a 42-0 victory. Considering the Rams have won five matchups by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brick Memorial's record now sits at 5-2. As for Southern Regional, their record is now 7-0.
Brick Memorial strolled past Southern Regional when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a score of 24-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
