Basketball Recap: K'veon Griffin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Brunswick over Ashley

West Brunswick lost against Ashley back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The West Brunswick Trojans took a 47-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ashley Screaming Eagle. While the Trojans didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Screaming Eagle 15-7 in the first quarter.

West Brunswick lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being K'Veon Griffin, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Clarida, who posted eight points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Quinn Bentley had an outrageously good game for Ashley as he went 7 of 16 on his way to 16 points and three steals. What's more, Bentley also racked up four boards, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Avery Saffo, who put up eight points.

West Brunswick dropped their record down to 8-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Ashley, with the victory, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Brunswick will square off against Topsail at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Brunswick is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season. As for Ashley, they will challenge New Hanover at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in New Hanover's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
