MaxPreps Soccer Tour of Champions celebrates Oviedo High School

The 11th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard made a visit to Oviedo, Florida on Friday, Mar. 11th to honor Oviedo High School Lions girls soccer for their outstanding 2015 season. The Army National Guard is in its fifth year honoring some of the top soccer teams nationwide.

The Lions capped their 21-2 season with a 3-1 triumph over Miami Lourdes Academy for their third 5A state championship title in six years. Oviedo scored a total of 95 goals while only giving up 12 over the entire season. Out of the Lions 23 games they also shutout 15 teams to take the state championship.

The MaxPreps Travel Team visited the astonishing high school during lunch where the students had the opportunity to meet Sergeant Justine Lujan and see the Army National Guard national ranking trophy up close. Several parents also were on-site to join the celebration.

During the ceremony, the dance and cheerleading team formed a tunnel to congratulate the girls soccer for being ranked No. 2 in the nation out of 9,000 girls soccer team across the country. MaxPreps representative Ray Dungee introduced the Tour of Champions to the students and gave them a background about the award before he shared the team’s achievements.

Dungee then introduced SGT Lujan who spoke about the excellence the coaching staff has instilled in the school and the soccer team. She compared the qualities found on a championship team with those found in the Army National Guard — commitment, dedication, hard work, perseverance and more. She then presented the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to Coach Scott Waisanen and the team.



Coach Waisanen was thrilled and humbled to receive the award and thanked both the Army National Guard and MaxPreps for recognizing his players.
