Volleyball Preview: Lafayette Lions vs. Southside Sharks
Lafayette hasn't had much luck against Southside recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. After both having extra time off, both will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 6:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Last Thursday, Lafayette made easy work of Westminster Christian Academy and carried off a 3-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.
Lafayette didn't let Westminster Christian Academy take a single set, but it sure wasn't easy: every set was decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 26-24, 25-22.
Abby Manson and Brae'Ona Smith were among the main playmakers for Lafayette as the former had 18 digs and the latter had 13 digs. Manson has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Normand, who had six digs and three aces.
She wasn't the only good server: Lafayette was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 17 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Southside waltzed into their match on Thursday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victor by a 3-0 margin over the Rams.
Lafayette is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Southside, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5.
