Dynamic duo of Kyla Sutherlin and Martina Howe lead Robert C. Byrd to victory

Recap: Robert C. Byrd Eagles vs. Sissonville Indians

On Saturday, the Robert C. Byrd Eagles faced the Sissonville Indians in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Robert C. Byrd snuck past Sissonville with a 42-36 win. That's another feather in the cap for Robert C. Byrd, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.

Robert C. Byrd was led to victory by Kyla Sutherlin and Martina Howe. Sutherlin scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Howe scored 21 points along with three steals. The matchup was Howe's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jada Sutherlin, who scored five points.

Sissonville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Ana Soblit, who scored six points along with five rebounds. Makaela Ullman was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds.

Robert C. Byrd's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Sissonville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.

Robert C. Byrd will finish 2023 at home by hosting East Hardy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. East Hardy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Robert C. Byrd is ranked 14th). Sissonville will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ripley at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th.
