Basketball Recap: Axtell Piles Up the Points Against Onaga

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Axtell's strategy against Onaga on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Axtell Eagles blew the Onaga Buffaloes out of the water with a 71-36 final score. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 22 points or more this season.

Several Buffaloes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Casen Hutfles, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Hutfles a new career-high in blocks (four). Another player making a difference was Jackson Kolterman, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.

Axtell's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. As for Onaga, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Axtell will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Doniphan West on January 28th. Axtell knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Doniphan West likes a good challenge. Onaga will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Wabaunsee at 4:45 p.m. on January 28th.
