High school basketball: Bronny James, Jared McCain and D.J. Wagner headline McDonald's All-American Game Roster

By Jordan Divens Jan 24, 2023, 12:30pm

Top 10 prospects Isaiah Collier, Aaron Bradshaw, Justin Edwards, Matas Buzelis, Ron Holland, Mackenzie Mgbako, Cody Williams, Stephon Castle and Xavier Booker are among other selections.

The McDonald's All America Game is being played in a new city but expect the same high-caliber action as the best boys basketball players from around the country meet March 28 in Houston for the 46th annual event. On Tuesday, the 24-player roster was announced.

D.J. Wagner makes headlines as the first third generation McDonald's All-American selection, following in the steps of his grandfather Milt Wagner (1981) and his father Dajuan Wagner (2001). The Wagner family is arguably the most decorated family in high school basketball history as each Milt and Dajuan surpassed 2,000 career points while D.J. sits at 1,805 points.

More notes of interest:

Bronny James is the only player who is still undecided on his future as all other players are either signed with college or have announced their intention to play in the G League next season.

• Four players (Wagner, James, Reed Sheppard and Andrej Stojakovic) are sons of former NBA players.

• California leads the way in terms of state representation with four players. James and Stojakovic join Aden Holloway of Prolific Prep (Napa) and Jared McCain of Centennial (Corona).

• John Calipari and Kentucky have the most All-Americans incoming next season with four. Duke came in second with three.

The 2023 McDonald’s All American Girls game will air on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and the Boys game will immediately follow on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET.
