Baseball Recap: Charlotte Country Day School Takes a Loss

Charlotte Country Day School extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-19 in the process. They came up short against the Cannon Cougars, falling 12-6. The Buccaneers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

James Lowe was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Sean Rydel also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Cannon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Cannon's side, Thomas Smith looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Smith has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 4-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Mason Mierzwa was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Grogan Kelley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

While Charlotte Country Day School had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
