Baseball Recap: Laurel Triumphs

Laurel hadn't done well against Shenango recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Spartans never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Not much got past Luca Santini, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Shenango off the board. Santini has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Laurel saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Mackrell, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Laurel hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive contests.

Laurel now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Shenango, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Laurel will head out to face off against Northgate at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Shenango, they will venture away from home to square off against South Side at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rams have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
