Murray came out on top against Ballard Memorial on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Bombers 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since March 26, 2024.

Avery Starks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Murray is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-9 otherwise. Starks was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Like Murray, Trigg County also got a great game from a two-way player: Aidon Butts. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Butts has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Hampton, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Bentley Reynolds was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Murray has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Trigg County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Murray couldn't quite finish off Trigg County when the teams last played back in March and fell 3-1. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
