            Football Recap: Crockett Cougars vs. Elgin Wildcats        
        
		
        
        
            It was a proper cat-fight when Crockett duked it out with Elgin on Thursday. The Cougars were  outmatched by the Wildcats and fell  70-26. The Cougars lost against the Wildcats in their previous head to head  back in October of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the  84-0 score last time.
 Crockett lost  despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was   Roger Chargois, who rushed for 96 yards and two  TDs on only eight carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was  Peter Cobos, who rushed for 160 yards while picking up 9.4 yards per carry.
 Elgin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but  Jeremiah Nicholson led the charge by rushing for 201 yards and a pair of  scores while picking up 11.8 yards per carry. The dominant performance also gave  Nicholson a new career-high in  rushing touchdowns (two).  Michael Mejias was another key player, rushing for 122 yards and three  touchdowns on only seven carries.
Crockett's record now sits at 1-6. As for Elgin, their  win (their first of the  season) made their record 1-6.
 Crockett and Elgin could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage  in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Cougars will  challenge  Pflugerville  at 7:30  p.m.  on  the 24th with a big rank  disadvantage  (1034 vs. 368). Meanwhile,  Elgin (ranked 802nd) will meet Bastrop (ranked 202nd)  at 7:30  p.m.  on  the 24th.
