Basketball Game Preview: Sumter Gamecocks vs. Spring Valley Vikings

The Sumter Gamecocks will face off against the Spring Valley Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Sumter is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 68-21 win over West Florence. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Gamecocks with their most commanding win of the season.

Sumter found their leader in freshman Araina Ross, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 16 points in addition to six assists and three steals. That's the most assists Ross has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Dantzler, who posted six points.

Sumter was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Spring Valley hadn't done well against Westwood recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Spring Valley strolled past Westwood with points to spare, taking the game 64-48. The Vikings pushed the score to 55-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Redhawks cut but never quite recovered from.

The victory made it two in a row for Sumter and bumps their season record up to 10-7. As for Spring Valley, their win bumped their record up to 12-8.
