Softball Recap: Beloit Memorial Triumphs

Beloit Memorial proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by ten) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Monona Grove Silver Eagles 4-3. This was payback for the Purple Knights, who suffered a 12-8 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Rilynne Cleland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Beloit Memorial's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Amiyah Clark, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another was Caitlyn Rochester, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Beloit Memorial's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Monona Grove, they moved to 3-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Beloit Memorial will face off against Badger at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Monona Grove, they will be playing at home against Janesville Craig at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The Silver Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
