Softball Recap: Carmel Takes a Loss

Carmel extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-15 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mooresville Pioneers. The Greyhounds were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pioneers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Jayden Kleiner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Mia Fleming also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

As for Mooresville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

On Mooresville's side, Reagan Bauer spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. Bauer has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Cierra Cramer and Sophie Culp did most of the damage at the plate: Cramer got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one double, while Culp got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Turner, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Carmel will host Fishers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Mooresville, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-3 loss against Shelbyville on the 10th.
