Football Recap: Viewmont Vikings vs. Brighton Bengals
Viewmont dropped to 4-2 on Friday, ending the team's five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Brighton Bengals, falling 42-14. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah football rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Bengals are ranked 19th).
Despite the loss, Viewmont still got an impressive performance from Noah Whitesides, who rushed for 99 yards on only eight carries.
As for Brighton, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since October 10, 2024 (when they won 41-0).
Staton Gutierrez was his usual excellent self, rushing for 204 yards and five TDs while picking up 10.2 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 110 rushing yards per game. Jayce Evans also helped out with an impressive 88 receiving yards.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Viewmont will take on rival Bountiful at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Benji Tolman and Siaki Fekitoa. Meanwhile, Brighton is set to face off against their familiar foe Olympus at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
