Basketball Game Preview: Gretna Hawks vs. Heritage Pioneers

Having just played yesterday, the Gretna Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the Heritage Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Gretna's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.

On Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Gretna beat Appomattox County 55-49. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Raiders are ranked 125th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Heritage came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Cavaliers by a score of 61-49.

Heritage is also on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points per game. As for Gretna, they pushed their record up to 13-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Gretna might still be hurting after the 75-51 loss they got from Heritage in their previous meeting back in January of 2015. Can Gretna avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
