Basketball Recap: Carver Takes a Loss

Carver lost against KIPP Atlanta Collegiate two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Carver Panthers were outmatched by the KIPP Atlanta Collegiate Warriors and fell 92-55. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-26.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jacory Pickett, who went 5 for 11 en route to 19 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Ezekiel Ferguson was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 12 points.

Jayvon Johnson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine assists. With that strong performance, Johnson is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Chane Bynum, who went 6 for 9 en route to 16 points and six rebounds.

Carver has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which is still a better percentage than their 4-14 record this season. As for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carver will square off against Holy Innocents Episcopal at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Holy Innocents Episcopal's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games. As for KIPP Atlanta Collegiate, they will take on Hapeville Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. KIPP Atlanta Collegiate is facing Hapeville Charter at the right time seeing as Hapeville Charter is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
