Baseball Game Preview: South Stokes Sauras vs. Mount Airy Granite Bears

South Stokes and Mount Airy are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The South Stokes Sauras will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mount Airy Granite Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in South Stokes' favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Mount Airy has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

South Stokes was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Alleghany on Friday. South Stokes blew past Alleghany 17-7. Considering the Sauras have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Xander Martin was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. South Stokes is undefeated when Martin posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Frank Kennedy, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Martin wasn't the only one working in the hit department: South Stokes kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Mount Airy didn't have quite enough to beat East Wilkes on Friday and fell 5-4.

Mount Airy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for South Stokes, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
