For the first time this season, Lincoln will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Monday. They are taking a road trip to square off against the Marysville Indians at 4:00 p.m. Lincoln will be strutting in after a victory while Marysville will be coming in after a loss.
Lincoln is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since April 30, 2024 on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Twelve Bridges.
Landyn Plaut was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Lincoln got a big performance out of Aiden Maul, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Those hits were Maul's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Diego Cuevas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Lincoln always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Marysville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Durham.
Like Lincoln, Marysville also got a great game from a two-way player: Taegan Jung. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Jung was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Jung wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Julien Johnson, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
The win got Lincoln back to even at 2-2. As for Marysville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6-1.
Marysville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. It's a different story for Marysville, though, as they've only averaged .190. Will they be able to contain Lincoln's hitters?
Lincoln couldn't quite finish off Marysville in their previous meeting back in May of 2017 and fell 6-4. Can Lincoln avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
