Football Recap: Costa Mesa Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Costa Mesa waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Everything went their way against the Bolsa Grande Matadors as they made off with a 29-6 victory. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly 23 points.

Andrew Waiss produced another solid performance rushing for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 87 yards and one TD. Gavin Garza also helped out as he racked up 124 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Costa Mesa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 309 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 185 rushing yards in 13 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Costa Mesa didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jack Shafiyoon and Louis Arreola. Arreola also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 16. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Bolsa Grande still got an impressive performance from Mikey Haley, who rushed for 96 yards and one score. Haley showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 68 yards.

Costa Mesa's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Bolsa Grande, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-4 record.

Costa Mesa has already played their next game, a 42-0 victory against La Quinta on the 23rd. As for Bolsa Grande, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 33-14 loss against Anaheim on the 23rd.
